Gas engines have their peak torque about a 1000 rpm higher than the Cummins. Now that its not rocket science to get around the ecu portion of the swap it's an obvious easy choice.The real reason you might want to swap a 4BT is for fuel mileage and size constants. A 4BT barely fits into an XJ Cherokee with a 6″+ lift, so a 6BT is definitely out of the question for many Jeep owners. I drilled the tranny housing and bolted slave directly to tranny. Had to cut down and turn a Grade 8 bolt to make a new slave cylinder pushrod. Works great and the old Dodge slaves can be rebuilt.Those two engine are just about the extremes of the 3.3's. That 110hp model has more power that most stock 4bt 3.9's. The 4bt is only rated about 45ft/lb more than the 4.0. It might help if you like to crawl rocks in 4H, but 4L has plenty of tq with the 4.0. The cool factor of a diesel swap is huge, and the mpg is way better, but that's a ton of work and effort for a huge loss of hp, and only a moderate gain in tq.Dec 9, 2021 · The 4BT architecture is essentially the 6BT minus two cylinders, making 4BT swaps easier. For engine conversions, a Cummins/Ram 5.9L truck can be a donor for the factory engine to transmission adapter, flywheel or flexplate and mating to a transmission like the Getrag 360, NV4500, NV5600 or G56 manual.Conquistador brings up another good point about the 4BT in that it is a dog. They came with 105hp for pre ‘98 and 170hp after ‘98 with 268 and 420 ft/lbs respectively. Another con to them is the weight of them. They can weigh 750-800lbs wet and a 6bt is about 1100lbs, where as an iron block V8 5.3L LS is about 500 lbs.

If you want the cheapest get the 47RH. The axle ratio that was standard was 5.38:1. With small tires that would be ridiculous with a 4bt. Might run 40 MPH or less. The old delivery vans that had those engine would only push about 55 MPH with a strong tail wind at full throttle of 2400-2500 RPM.

The problem with swapping a 4BT is that they are very tall from the bottom of the pan to the top of the valve cover.
