I don't know if it was sudden or gradual since I don't always use the tractor myself - my wife uses it a lot. Anyways, I needed to do the 300hr service so I changed the fluid and the HST and hydraulic filters.

Trans/hydro fluid replacement not until 600 hours. I did mine at 50, 150, & 300 hours. Hydraulic fluid is still very clean (305 hrs now) not planning to change hydro/Trans fluid until recommended time (600 hrs). Not sure about the smaller tractors.
