I have done it this way on my race engines for years, adjust the intake when the exhaust starts to open and do the exhaust when the intake starts to close. If you have a solid use your feeler gauge if it is a hyd. take all of the slack out of the pushrod and give it 1/4 turn then snug the jam nut down. Do not over tighten the jam nut.
